My very own quilt retreat

Friday, June 17th, 2011

I’d really, really like to go on a quilt retreat. Everybody else does and I’d like to too.

Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be anything like that available round here and trekking halfway across Europe doesn’t seem to be a runner at the moment. Family, responsibilities….you know how it is!

So I’ve decided to have my very own quilt retreat. My very own. Just for me. In my little sewing room.

We have three weeks till the end of the school year, so it really needs to be soon, because afterwards it will be chaos round here. There are a couple of major jobs that I’ve been putting off for ages – steam cleaning the living room and kitchen floors and washing and reoiling the parquet –  both of which I hate, so I’m doing a deal with myself. Next week I’m going to knuckle down and do both of them and then I’m going to have at least a two day quilt retreat.

I’m going to switch off the phone, totally neglect the housework and the garden, tell my clients that I’m already fully booked and can’t take on any extra work….and stitch and stitch and stitch. I’m going to baste and quilt the three tops on the basting pile, finish piecing the three quilt tops that are in progress and ….it’s going to be HEAVEN!!!

Is anyone going to join me?

Helen

Sounds like a really good idea! Tell me when you have in mind and I might indeed join you (since I have quite a stack of tops which need quilting as well).

I’m in – I want to finish my Joseph’s Ladder quilt and this will give me just the push that I need.
But before that happens I’ll also join you in some much needed housework – when that’s done we can enjoy our retreat with a clear conscience.
Wishing you a great (noise free) weekend.

What a good idea! Alas, I won’t be able to join in (I have to finish a thesis for my study) but I am happy for you and the others. 🙂

I’m going to do a similar thing with my writing. I shall be imposing office hours during the hols when I mustn’t be disturbed (by others) or distracted (by the Internet). It’s the only way I am going to get anywhere with my books.
    Have a lovely quilting retreat!
