Giotto in Green

Saturday, June 18th, 2011

This is Giotto by Anna Bell, which I first saw knitted by Stephanie ages ago. I was enchanted by them then and about a year later have finally tracked down the pattern and I’m on my way!

These are going to be quite lacey socks – so with that in mind I didn’t want to use a yarn with too much going on. This is Lana Grossa Soya (yes, you read that right!) in lime green (otherwise known as colour number 6). It’s a sensible mixture of 60% wool, 20% polyamide and 20% soya (viscose). It knits up really nicely and should wear well. The colour hits you between the eyes and is seriously cool.

I am so thrilled by the picot hem. I haven’t done one before and I really thought it was going to be tricky. Let me tell you….picot hems are absolutely do-able and at the same time so clever. This sock just looks beautifully finished before I’ve even started it. I’m really tickled pink and as it’s a grotty rainy afternoon I’m off now to watch another episode of Foyle’s War and make a little sock progress.

The picot hem is just lovely! Can’t wait how the rest of the socks will look like, the first rows look beautiful. šŸ™‚

The skill of knitting is something I tried, and failed, to acquire. I think the start to your socks looks wonderful.
