Hot socks and tennis balls

Monday, June 27th, 2011

I’ve been knitting socks of and on. It seems a bit barmy when the temperature outside is in the 30s, but there’s nothing quite like watching a bit of Wimbledon and a little light knitting.

(On that front, a quick note to Andy Murray – please don’t let us down Andy. The whole of England and all us expats are rooting for you. After the Olympic ticket fiasco England needs something uplifting. Oh, and if you’re going to lose, make sure it’s only to Roger – because I’m Swiss too, you see).

Anyway, enough burbling.

The Giotto socks are  coming along nicely, if a little slowly. They are very, very beautiful and require oodles of concentration. They may well be the most beautiful socks I’ve ever knitted and are probably also the slowest. But that’s OK. Sometimes that’s just the way it has to be.

After my high jinx and sewing delights last week I’m knuckling down a bit this week. I spent this morning cleaning the house – well, half of it. A girl can have too much of a good thing. It was dreadful. I was actually ashamed of the state it was in. I’m not wild about cleaning, but I really love the results. So uplifting. Only 2 floors to go and I’ll qualify for my good little Swiss housewife badge.

On that happy note, I’m off to see how Andy is getting along. (oooh it’s looking a bit tight…..)

Onwards and upwards. Do your stuff Andy. England is relying on you.

Helen

Awesome socks, Helen. Don’t go too mad with the cleaning – you’re making me feel lazy! Watching Andy Murray at the mo.

That is a lovely sock – I don’t think that I would have the patience to produce such a masterpiece – of course I’ve only knitted one pair so far.
I spent the morning weeding in the hot sun (watered the garden with my sweat) so I can sympathize with the cleaning but don’t go overboard I am sure it really is not as dirty as you think it is.
Enjoy the tennis and the knitting – I am going to spend the afternoon paper piecing while I ignore the laundry pile and the dust–tomorrow is another day.

Roger has just added a few more grey hairs to my head, but he prevailed, thank heavens! I love those socks! What a pity I don’t knit much. Maybe I should…..

When you’ve done your cleaning you can nip over to England and do mine. I am also not mad about cleaning but like the results!

Glorious socks! I am enjoying so much watching your progress on these because I KNOW they require lots of concentration and are not a “quick knit”. And just so you know – I also knit socks in the summer – that way I have brand new socks to wear in the winter!
