A mooch in York
I never did get to show you photos of my trip to York last week, what with the missing camera and all the hullaballoo in between.
Anyway, now I can.
I love York – it’s a fabulous town to have a good mooch around, fantastically historic and full of interesting places to visit and things to see. The Minster is famous, but I didn’t make it there this time, it being more of a girly day and all.
It turned out that the Saturday we went to York was the busiest shopping day of the year. We spent a lot of time looking round the old shopping area known as the Shambles – as you can see it’s delightful, but wall to wall bodies! It was also a typically northern English very grey day!
However I did make it to the lovely yarn shop – Ramshambles – which was packed. Not as relaxing to look around as I would have liked, but on the other hand it’s really nice to see a wool shop full of people! Sorry, the photo is slightly out of focus – poor Lindsay was having a hard time using my camera!
The Shambles is full of higgledy piggeldy buildings dating back hundreds of years.
There has also been some wonderful restoration work done – on the Barley Hall, for example!
After many years of wanting to go there I also finally made it to the headquarters of the Quilter’s Guild – a gorgeous old building in a fairly quiet part of town. We had to laugh – we probably picked the quietest place to be in York on a Saturday afternoon!
But just look at what gorgeous things we found inside…and what a fantastic building!
So if you’re ever nearby…you know where to go!

I love York too!
I love the Quilter’s Guild building but I was a bit disappointed with the display, I felt more quilts could have been displayed, maybe I’m just greedy!

I love York. We spent a few days there a few years ago on our trip to the UK. My friend’s daughter works at York Minster!

I’ve been to York once Helen, and fell in love with it! And with most of Yorkshire! And with the Minster! I truly hope I can go back some day….thanks for the great photos.

How lovely to see York again. I covered York when I was a sales rep for some publishers and went there a lot. We also lived fairly close by so had recreational visits too, and Chris was at Uni there a long time ago! It’s a beautiful city.

It`s years since I visited York – perhaps 20 odd years? Must go back – it looks lovely if a little busy! Great photo of you BTW!
