Whizzing Whirligigs
My Whirligig blocks are all finished! Whew! I’ve been having a real push to get them done over the last couple of days. I’m really pleased with them and I’m looking forward to seeing how they are going to look with darker sashing in jewel colours between them. I still have to make a zillion more hourglass blocks for the border, but I feel like I’m on a roll! I’ll get there!!!
For those new to the blog – this is a Whirligig quilt from Carrie Nelson’s wonderful book Miss Rosie’s Spice of Life Quilts. It is a great stash buster quilt. I know I have used vast quantities of stash fabrics – even though I still can’t quite work out where they came from!
For the first time ever I’m thinking of sending this top out to be long-arm quilted. It will be too big for me to do on my own machine and other quilters seem to get great results doing this. Do any of you have any advice for me? I imagine I will probably send it to the UK as I don’t know of anyone here in Switzerland offering the service. It feels a little extravagant to send it out, but I recently looked into buying myself a long-arm machine, and on both cost and space grounds it isn’t really a sensible option for me.
Anyway, time now for a break and a little sunshine….
