Getting there…and it’s looking good!
There’s been a lot of serious heavy-duty stitching going on around here over the last couple of days, which did result in more house and garden neglect…, but I did at least remember to feed the children!!
The Whirligig top is done apart from the outer borders. They are going to take a while as they involve a zillion hourglass blocks – well 76 if you’re a purist, plus three cute little corner blocks. So far I have 3 hourglass blocks!!! So as I say, it will be a while….
I’m thrilled with the result so far! The blocks really need the dark sashing and I think will look even better once the final border is added. It’s somehow light and rich all at the same time and has a real country scrappy feel. I used a lot of very old fabrics which have been hanging around in my stash for decades – putting them to a good use feels soooo virtuous! The only things I bought were three light fat quarters as I thought I might run a little short, otherwise it’s all stash.
All in all, just a great quilt – if I blow my own trumpet! Congratulations and thanks to Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co. for a really great pattern!
I desperately needed to get all the machining done today because you know what starts tomorrow…I’m going to be glued to the TV for the next month or so. It will be handwork for me for the next few weeks. I have the Malabrigo cardigan to finish up for my daughter and the Winter White Schnibble to hand quilt. Both are singularly inappropriate now that the temperature is up around 30 degrees, but at least I should make a fair bit of progress. Who knows, maybe I ‘ll even get them finished.
Happy stitching and adieu for now….
Helen

Your quilt top is so bright and beautiful hanging in the sun – can’t wait to see it with that scrappy hourglass border – I LOVE scrap quilts!

Your quilt turned out wonderfully. I started out with Judy L’s Paint Stix but was side-tracted by handbag construction. I have a couple of embroidery jobs I need to tackle before I can think about finished up some UFOs.

I love this quilt. The dark colors are fantastic with the white. Can’t wait to see it done. I’m inspired!
