A manifesto for June

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I found this on Leonie Wise’s blog. It’s her manifesto for June. Don’t you just love it!  To be honest, when I read it I thought it could be my manifesto for life. It checks all the boxes for me and fits really nicely with my search for order out of chaos, simplicity and more zen in my life.

Leonie is developing a manifesto for each month. Something that will sets the tone for the month ahead. I like it – somehow like New Year Resolutions, but monthly. Doing something like this forces you to focus on what is actually important right now, today and what you should have in the back of your mind over the next four weeks. I think that’s something a lot of us could really benefit from. It would make me draw back to the core and be more focused I think. Maybe I’ll give it a try too!

I like ‘it’s OK to say no‘ – I think I’d have that on my manifesto every month. That is a lesson that I have learned the hard way over the last few years and I often need reminding not to be too quick to jump into something new that I will then have difficulty getting out of again. My husband has taught me to look at situations with a cold eye and assess how much time something will take and what I would rather do with that time. I’m also learning slowly not to feel guilt when I say no. That’s a hard one – especially at church and with charity events. In the past I’ve hopelessly overloaded myself and then end up just being at breaking point – resenting everything and everyone. Not a good way to be, but I’m learning!

I’ve truly come to realize over the years that it’s better to do only a little, but do it well and enjoy it. Easier said than done I know, but  it works for me!

Do you remember last month when I wrote that my garden was blue, totally unintentionally blue? Well the funniest thing has happened – it’s June and my garden is now pink! If I had tried I don’t think I could have organized that!

So now I’m off to smile at some strangers and do some deep breathing!!

Oh Helen, I love this idea! I need to go check out Leonie’s blog for more inspiration. I am just leaving the house to meet a friend for lunch, and the “be present” message is such a good one. I plan to really listen to my friend while we are together.
