Decisions, decisions…..
Happily I managed to make twelve wonky log cabin blocks from my Spring Fever jelly roll. It’s amazing how quickly those blocks went together. I so rarely sew anything that doesn’t require a lot of accurate point matching up that it was like a breath of fresh air to sew these blocks. They are going to make a great quilt for a little girl.
Which gets me onto the next problem…my twelve blocks are too small for a quilt – so as I talked about last week, I’m thinking sashing and borders and that should pretty much get me up to a decent usable size. I’ve been rootling around in the stash and auditioning fabrics and I’ve finally come down to two possibilities – I figure I can use one for the sashing/borders and the other for the back – I think I should have enough of either.
So what do you think? Lighter pink with spots, or dark pink with a green pattern in-between? Both work pretty well with the blocks, but the light pink is more subdued.
I’d love to know what you think. So come on girls, give it to me straight!

I love the darker pink. Makes the blocks sparkle more. It’s actually quite amazing how the two different shades of pink affect how the blocks look.

I vote for the darker fabric – I like the contrast – makes the other fabrics pop.
The soft pink is nice, but the over all effect is just not as “happy” to me.

I like the darker print. Your blocks “pop” with that one. Whichever you choose the quilt will be lovely.

I like the lighter because it shows up the blocks more. Looks fun!

I think the darker fabric is great but actually mutes the blocks. The lighter fabric looks like a beautiful backdrop to make the uniqueness and color and whimsy of the blocks really stand out. Or “pop.” 🙂 Interesting to see the contrasting comments. When I squint my eyes to look at the photo, the lighter fabric “helps” the blocks look their brightest. So says the expert. Ha. Not!

I like the lighter fabric better if it is going to be for a little girl x

My vote goes for the darker fabric. To my eye the lighter one does not offer enough contrast.

Tough choice. Initially I said the lighter fabric but I think I’ve changed my mind to the darker fabric as the blocks pop more.

I like both but if I had to choose I would go for the darker one. I like the contrast and I think the light pink would look lovely as a border to finish it all off. It’s a very cute quilt and I’m sure it’s going to make a little girl very happy.

They both work – but to my mind the darker fabric makes the blocks pop more – a lovely, bright quilt for a little girl. (Don’t you sew fast – much faster than me anyway :-))

Ooh tricky decision. I like both but they’re doing different things I think. The lighter pink picks up the pink in some of the blocks better while the darker becomes part of the quilt rather than a background. Could be a case of put a piece of both in each hand, swap round behind your back so many times that you can’t remember which is which, and which ever one comes out in your right hand is the one you use.

They both work well, find a 10 year old girl and ask her which she prefers!

i like the darker fabric.
it’s perfect for a child

I don’t think I’m much help here… I like them BOTH! So what is your purpose in the sashing? (Other than just making the quilt bigger.) Would you like to make the blocks “pop”? If so, use the dark… if pinned down that is probably the one I would go with. Do you want the quilt to read, “I’m so soft and cuddly… please snuggle in me”? If so, go with the light. That’s my 2 cents worth. (A penny for your thoughts, so I gave you 2 thoughts.) Either way it will be a wonderful quilt!

I would choose the darker pink. Lovely blocks. It will make a nice quilt.

the darker pink works best I think. looking good!

I would go for the dark one, but they are both good.

I like the darker pink; it really makes the squares “pop.” Beautiful quilt!

Dark for the sashing, light for the back, sorted 😀

Lighter for me!

I like the lighter fabric. It makes the quilt look more “girly” to me.

Darker pink. The light pink blends in beautifully, but it makes it all samey samey. that’s a real term, you know! The darker pink makes the blocks punch out.

I’m with everyone else – dark pink, it makes the blocks shine more.

I vote for light pink. Embrace the girliness! Use the dark pink on the back 🙂

I think the darker fabric makes the blocks pop, and also fits in with the brighter colours in the blocks. But both look good. In fact I like half and laf!

Of course that should be half and half!
