A turbulent week

Saturday, April 6th, 2013

I’ve been rather missing in action this week. It’s been a week of major decisions and one where I nearly threw in the towel on my new job. However I think now I have made it clear that I can’t possibly do a full-time job in three days a week and have finally found some solutions that may I hope make the whole thing workable.

After several sleepless nights, a migraine and a very helpful pep talk from my husband at 3am one morning.

Phew. I don’t want to go through that again!

However on a positive note, I finished the binding on the Sea Glass quilt. I chose a light pinky/bluey/white batik…..I’m sorry all you batik-haters out there, but I think it works really well! The same fabric was used for some of the little sea glass squares and although I initially thought of binding in teal or turquoise, at the end of the day I think it provided a contrast that the quilt needs.

The other lovely thing that happened this week is that my Stitch Tease quilt top arrived from Di in the Czech Republic. I still can’t show it to you – we’re going to have a co-ordinated big reveal of all the quilt tops at the same time…but hopefully that will be in the next few days once all the quilt tops have arrived. Stitch Tease has been such a fun bee, challenging, but fun. I hope you’ll agree when you see the tops!

I’m dedicating this weekend to puttering around and taking things easy. I think I deserve it!

I think the binding you chose is perfect. Especially since the quilting is of waves and pebbles, the binding reminds me of something fluid…wonderful choice! xxoo

As a perennial “part-time” professional (I’m a geologist who is mom to a kid with Asperger’s Syndrome and haven’t worked full time since he was born), I must say that getting asked to do a 40 hour per week job in 32 or 24 hours is TYPICAL. And though you may have worked it out for now, let me advise you to be on your guard. It will probably creep back in. Just saying. Love your quilts.

Lovely finish. Glad you seem to have solved the work/life balance – hope it works out. In the meantime enjoy some quiet “Helen” time.

This is so beautiful Helen! Those pebbles must have taken a lot of time & effort. We have been away this last week so I am very impressed that you have got so much done in that time – completely finished & bound too!

Also glad to hear you are getting some balance back re work/life – I am still working on how to make it work ….

Love your sea glass quilt. Glad to hear you put your foot down at work, otherwise it can very quickly take over everything!

So glad you got everything sorted, and hope balance rules from now on.
I will think of the batik as ‘tie dye’ instead and that way it won’t distract from the lovely quilt! xxx

Ahh, must have been ‘throw a small tantrum at your new job week’! Glad you got things sorted anyway, and well done on finishing that quilt!

Although I am usually someone who likes quite “classical” quilts, this one really appeals to me – it’d be perfect in our little house in Brittany LOL šŸ˜‰

    Looking forward to seeing you…!!

I love how your sea glass quilt turned out. Normally I’m not a fan of batiks but in this case I love it. I already loved it in the little scraps you sent for the squares.
So glad work/life is in balance again. Hope you have a lovely Sunday!

Gosh, quite a week then! Things must have been bad to get to the “pep talk at 3am” stage! Lets hope you see some improvement from here on in.

The sea glass quilt is wonderful. It’s so exciting that this is our first Sew Euro-bee-an complete quilt. I’m not a batik fan, but the border is just perfect.

    xx

I am so glad you are sorting the work thing, and keeping the excellent job too. I love the quilt and the binding is perfect. I am not a batik hater at all, I just have not had a chance to figure out when to use them.

I hope your weekend proved to be relaxing and restful. The quilt is really pretty and the binding makes a perfect frame.
Now I am waiting on my Stitch Tease Quilt top…come on mailman!

Well I don’t really like batiks but the binding does work and sea glass is a beautiful gentle quilt.
