Home Sweet Home
I drove back from Germany this afternoon through probably the heaviest rain I’ve ever driven through. The rain started around Ulm and we stuck right in it through Austria and into Switzerland. What can I say? – it’s horrid, but the garden needs it and after all the heat of the last few weeks I’m rather enjoying the cooldown (but don’t tell anyone I said that…).
I had the most delightful break – with one of my very best friends and her family, who I love to bits. It was so good to chat and mooch and just hang out together and relax. I got so lazy that even the Malabrigo sweater didn’t make it to the finishing line, but it isn’t far off.
We checked out some of the wool shops in Erlangen yesterday. As always I was on the look out for unusual hand-dyed sock yarn, and found a couple of crazy coloured skeins, which I think I’m going to have fun knitting up. I already have a recipient in mind for the luminous yellow and green skein. (And he’s going to love it!!)
The yarn is Trekking Handart from Atelier Zitron Wickende in Germany. I can’t find a website for the producer, but when I googled I found a zillion German knitting blogs raving about this yarn. It can be purchased on line from umgarnt.de, which I have discovered also carries my favourite Manos del Uruguay yarn (which I’ve always had to buy from the US in the past).
It’s nice to be home – but then I always say that! I just like being at home! I love to travel and visit friends, but I’m always happy to come home again – I think that’s probably a healthy way to be. I can’t imagine how sad it must be if you don’t feel happy in your own home. I’ve had slight sewing machine withdrawal symptoms, so I can feel some stitching coming on in the next few days. And it’s officially perfect weather for it!
Watch this space!

Glad you’re home safe, Helen. Oh how great it must be to live in Europe and be able to just drive down to Germany or France or Italy over to England. Sigh!

Oh, I love the colours in that yarn! They’re going to be a gorgeous pair of socks. My mission for this winter is to master knitting socks. I tried last year but all those needles were just so confusing I got in a complete muddle.
