Another finish….the plaid quilt is done!
I’m getting loads done this week. I only have my 15 year old daughter at home – so life is easy. I’m lucky that she loves to cook and potter around, go to see films with her mother and eat in restaurants that her siblings wouldn’t countenance. The other two children are away at camp and my husband is somewhere in Italy on his motorbike. So at home it’s relaxed and easy and things are getting done!
I’m just finishing the binding on the plaid quilt and then that’s another project that can be ticked off. The stippled machine quilting went well – and I think I’m now about ready to try some more advanced machine quilting on my next project. I feel like I know what I’m doing now and I’ve lost the terror that I used to feel at the prospect of machine quilting. I still have trouble getting my head round how quick it is and how many projects I can churn out compared to my old one a year rate when I was hand-quilting everything. This one seems to have been done in no time at all!
I hummed and hawed for a while on what to use for a binding on this quilt – but in the end I didn’t have enough of any of the plaids left and I did have quite a few ecru jelly roll strips – which made it all a no-brainer really. I think the ecru fabric looks pretty nice though.
It’s a small quilt and it’s going to be for bunk-bed use in the mountains. I’m guessing that it should be a perfect size for a bunk-bed. Let’s see who claims it when everyone is home again.
So now I’d better get back to stitching!

By the way, I almost forgot – we went to see ‘Young Victoria’ yesterday at the cinema – and it was delightful. I would highly recommend it. Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend were just perfect in the leading roles. So if it comes your way and you have a chance to see it then do!

I love the plaid quilt! It is so fresh and summery. Lucky you to have your daughter home to play with!
