Updates
I’m finally just about recovered from running yesterday – boy was I wiped out by the end! I actually managed a decent time – 1 hour 57 minutes – only two minutes slower than my half-marathon personal best – but it was a real struggle. Andrea and I both finished with the same time – and both of us were totally exhausted. We both agreed that although this race was much shorter and flat, we found it harder than the Alpine 31K in July. There I think the beautiful views meant that our minds weren’t on the race (and the pain!) the whole time!
This time I spent a lot of the two hours thinking ‘I must be insane to be doing this’ thoughts, which probably didn’t improve my performance one jot. I think the fact that I know the route like the back of my hand and have run the race four times now wasn’t helpful. I don’t really want to say that I was bored exactly, but the whole thing became a metal battle with myself, which is never going to be a bundle of laughs.
The up side of the whole adventure was that I had no knee or hip issues, no blisters (thank you Adidas anti-blister socks – you worked!) and no blackened toenails (you all really wanted to know that I’m sure!). I was absolutely fit for nothing afterwards and crawled into bed with a monumental headache at 8pm. So that’s me done on the race front for this season. I feel like my body is ready for a rest.
Today I’ve been cleaning and doing laundry and getting ready for some friends visiting tomorrow. The children are all doing homework and my husband is on a plane to New York, so I felt justified in taking over the bedroom floor and laying out Opening Day. It isn’t going to take too much longer – and I have to say I’m thrilled with it. It’s made with Moda’s Lumiere de Noel by French General and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the colour combination, not to mention the flying geese and stars. If I say so myself, this is going to be a beauty! Sorry about the slightly iffy photo, but I’m very limited on where there is space to lay out a not yet sewn together project this big! I’m going to try very hard to get it finished this week if I can.
Hope you are having a lovely Sunday wherever you are!
Helen

That is going to be one SENSATIONAL quilt ;))
Congratulations on the Greifensee run – well done for sticking with it, even when the going got tough! You have my unlimited admiration…
Hope the headaches stop soon and you can enjoy this pretty, if cooler, weather! Take care!
